What we manage

Four disciplines, one long horizon.

We allocate across public and private markets, weighting toward durable businesses and real assets that compound quietly over full cycles.

01

Private Equity

Controlling and minority positions in founder-led companies, held for the decade it takes to build something that lasts.

Since 1926
02

Public Markets

A concentrated portfolio of quality businesses bought below intrinsic value and left alone to work.

Since 1972
03

Private Credit

Senior, secured lending to established mid-market borrowers, structured for capital preservation first.

Since 1989
04

Real Assets

Infrastructure, timber and property, the tangible holdings that carry value across generations and inflation.

Since 2004

A century of stewardship

One firm, one temperament, a hundred years.

From a single room on Lombard Street to six offices across three continents, the mandate has never changed: protect capital first, then let it compound.

1926

The house is founded

Edmund Ashford and Frederick Vane open a small merchant house on Lombard Street, London, backing owner-run businesses with their own capital.

1954

Across the Atlantic

A New York office opens to serve the firm's first American endowments and manage its earliest cross-border mandates.

1972

Into public markets

A concentrated equity strategy is founded on a single principle: own few, own well, and hold through the noise.

1989

Zurich, and direct lending

The firm opens on the Continent and begins lending directly to mid-market companies, secured and patient.

2004

Real assets

A platform is built around infrastructure, timber and property, holdings meant to outlast whoever assembled them.

2018

Singapore and Hong Kong

Two Asian offices open, extending the same long-horizon approach to a new set of partners and markets.

The partnership

Stewards, not traders.

The investment committee has served together for an average of nineteen years. Continuity is the point.

Our philosophy

“We would rather be approximately right over ten years than precisely wrong over one.”
— Edmund Ashford, from a letter to partners, 1931
